I have hypotheticals regarding these two while here in Virginia. I've spoken with one from Florida, two from Pennsylvania, and two from Virginia. They've all said they would be in the same boat with these two kids as there are no alternatives in their states either. One of the women was a correctional nurse at a youth detention center and that they frequently have to four point restrain and place youth on a twenty four hour watch. She noted that, at times, there are so many mentally ill youth in the center at one time she and her team of two LPN's have to decide which youth have the greatest potential for change and which ones will become "lifers" in the adult system. She noted that those "lifers" are provided the basics for care and the focus and attention are given to those with potential for change but that no matter the level of health for any of the children they are not a residential facility but that the state is treating them as such. I will let you know if I come across any better news or solutions. :-( M
